Description

The Island Sailing Club, Reading has always been a family club.

There are a number of activities, both on and off the water for junior members. These include special junior races and series.

For those juniors who are not yet old enough to sail, the clubhouse has a number of toys, games and books to keep them entertained.

The club has a number of Toppers, a very safe starter sailing boats for junior beginners and there is always someone willing to go out in the Safety Boat to give advice and guidance. The Club has a Youth Welfare Officer, who is responsible for the organisation of Junior Activities and for the Child Protection Policy, as it applies to the Club. The Youth Welfare Officer is a designated Committee members.

Juniors must be adequately supervised by a responsible parent/guardian at all times when on the club premises, except for Junior Specific activities such as training and activity days.

Life jackets should be worn when young children are on the lake frontage.

· Juniors must wear buoyancy aids when on a dinghy, raft, canoe or other boat.

. Juniors are not allowed in the Safety Boat during racing unless trained.

Club buoyancy aids are available to use, for Juniors and adults, these are stored in the the Clubhouse. These should be returned after use and hung up so that they dry.

ISCR Policy on Child Protection supports the RYA Guidelines

• The child’s welfare is paramount. ISCR will take all reasonable steps to ensure through appropriate procedures and training, that children can partake in club activities in a safe environment.

• All children whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and/or sexual identity, etc. have the right to protection from abuse.

• All suspicions and allegations of inappropriate behaviour will be taken seriously and responded to Swiftly and appropriately

• As defined in the Children’s Act 1989, anyone under the age of 18 years should be considered as a child for the purposes of this document

• It is recognised that some adults may also be vulnerable and require similar protection.

The policy relates to everyone involved with club activities and will be kept under periodic review.

All concerns, allegations, complaints and comments about the policy and associated procedures should be bought to the attention of the Youth Welfare Officer
